About Dr. Barker:
Dr. Barker graduated from Southern College of Optometry where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974 and his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1975.

He is a licensed optometrist with over 25 years experience in the eye care industry. From October 1989 to July 1996, Dr. Barker served as co-president of Consolidated Eye Care, Inc., the parent company of AECC/Pearlman Buying Group and AECC Total Vision Health Plan, Inc. During this same period Dr. Barker served as vice president and secretary of eyecarecenter OD, P.A.

In 1990 and 1991 Dr. Barker served as president of the Alliance of Major Ophthalmic Buying Groups. He published 33 papers in various eye care related journals between 1977 and 1987 and has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Barker has participated in numerous contact lens related clinical research projects for Bausch & Lomb and served as an adjunct faculty member of Southern College of Optometry for 5 years between 1978 and 1988. He presently serves on the Wesley Jessen Optometry Professional Advisory Board panel.

Dr. Barker is a charter member of the American Optometric Association contact lens section, a 1994 North Carolina Entrepreneur of the Year winner in the retail category and has served on numerous charitable and civic related boards.
